Genesis 3:9-12

Introduction

When God created man, He gave him a position of authority with responsibilities.  That man, Adam, held a position of priority, was accountable to God and obeyed His commands as watchman of the earth.  As long as Adam followed God’s instructions, his life was blessed and was in constant fellowship with God.  Unfortunately, Adam’s sin against God, which led to fear, followed mankind for generations to come.

Once Adam disobeyed, he hid from the Lord. Adam’s position and authority were compromised the moment he sinned.  Like Adam, numerous men are in hiding today because of sin.  Whether they are suffering from the sin they have committed themselves, or the consequences of generational sin, everything around them has the potential to be destroyed.

A man’s role is at the foundation of our society. Just as the foundation of a building provides the strength for its structure, the foundation of a society provides strength for our families to our world.  If a man is shaky, anything he touches is going to be shaky, including his family, his finances, and his career.  The only way a man can serve as the foundation that God intended him to be is by subjecting himself to the rule of God.

Once a man accepts his role and responsibilities as assigned by God, he will not need to hide in fear or shame because he knows he is aligned with God’s will and purpose for his life.  A man aligned with God lives by revelation and not human reason.  God cannot do anything in the lives of those who continue to live in sin because they are living by the rules of the culture.

The good news is that there are two Adams mentioned in the Bible.  Where the first Adam caused death, the second one created new life.  1 Corinthians 15:22 gives us the reassurance that through Christ, all men can have victory in life.

Getting Started

  1. Have you ever hidden something about yourself that you were ashamed of? Why did you hide it? Who did you think you were hiding it from?
  2. How did it affect your fellowship with God?

Let’s Get Personal

  1. Pastor Evans stated in order to be successful in life, we must do things God’s way. Think of a time when you made a commitment to live by God’s way rather than human reason.  What was the difference between the two?

Take the Next Step

  1. Want to go deeper? Take a look at the following passages: Gen 2:15-18; Isa 3:12; Ezek 22:30; Mal 4:4-6; 1 Tim 2:12

Kingdom Resources for Men

A Kingdom Man is a male who visibly and consistently submits to the comprehensive relationship and rule of God, underneath the Lordship of Jesus Christ, in every area of his life.

  1. Set aside time to meet with God daily, in His Word and through prayer, for the purpose of cultivating spiritual intimacy. Proactively seek to draw down heavenly authority and receive divine instruction. This can be done by reviewing the weekly sermon outlines and key Scriptures, reading and meditating through specific passages in or an entire book of the Bible, or using a devotional guide. The goal is to seek more of God than merely seeking things from God.
  2. Pray daily with your mate and share with her what you are learning from church and your personal time with God.
  3. Regularly use a meal time for praying with and over your family, having devotions, Scripture reading and discussing what your children learned in church or in their own time with the Lord. Remove distractions from this time. If you are single, use this time to pray for any extended family as well as for your future family.
  4. If your children do not live with you, engage them regularly through text or a phone call to inquire as to how they are doing, read or discuss a chapter in Scripture (you can start with the Psalms) and to give them guidance. Close with praying for them, and with them for others. If they are not open to this, text them that you are praying for them each day and ask God to cause them to become more open to this.
