Hebrews 6:1-12

Introduction

Butterflies go through metamorphosis, transitioning from egg to larva, pupa, and adult. Similarly, Christians undergo transformation after salvation, striving for spiritual maturity. This ongoing process requires a deliberate effort to consistently seek a spiritual perspective through consultation with Heaven, guided by Christ as our Lord and Savior.

Christians must passionately pursue spiritual maturity and partner with God, surpassing the level of passion for relationships, education, or careers. As Hebrews 6:3 states, we press on toward spiritual growth with God’s permission, persevering through trials. It is God who works within us as we strive for spiritual growth, as noted in Philippians 2:13. Failure to continue pursuing spiritual growth after experiencing God’s saving grace means losing out on His plans for us, as emphasized in Hebrews 6:1-12.

As Christians develop a heavenly perspective and pursue spiritual growth, they will receive greater spiritual blessings, become useful to God’s Kingdom, and gain opportunities for ministry. Their increased spiritual orientation leads to greater access, privileges, and rights in the Kingdom. It is crucial to boldly declare our pursuit of spiritual maturity and rely on prayer to persevere through the transformation process. This results in becoming citizens of Heaven on Earth and glorifying God.

Getting Started

  1. Besides butterflies, what other insects undergo a transformation?
  2. Have you ever seen a butterfly in an early stage of transformation? If so, what did you think of the still-developing insect?

Let’s Get Personal

  1. Take a moment to assess yourself. In what stage of spiritual transformation are you in currently?
  2. Can you think of a time when God has called you to transform your way of thinking or speaking and you have decided to not participate? How have you grown since then?
  3. What are some practical ways in which you are already pursuing spiritual maturity? If you are not, what are some practical ways in which you could begin pursuing spiritual maturity?

Take the Next Step

  1. What instructions has the Lord illuminated to you to grow in fervency towards spiritual maturity? Be sure to write them down to help you remember where your focus should be.
  2. How do you see your spiritual maturity benefiting God’s Kingdom and your brothers and sisters in Christ? How do you feel the Lord wants to use you to be a blessing?
  3. Want to go deeper? Take time to look at the following passages: Hebrews 5:11-14; 1 Corinthians 2:9-16; 1 Corinthians 3:1-3; 1 John 2:12-14; 2 Peter 3:17-18; 2 Peter 1:1-11; Romans 12:1-2;1 Peter 2:1-2; Romans 8:28-29; 2 Corinthians 3:17-18; James 1:19-25
