Genesis 12:1-3
Introduction
God has a Kingdom legacy He wants to establish, and just like NFL players are drafted to play for a greater purpose, we’ve been drafted to live out the Kingdom, even in the midst of hardship. We’ve been called to prove that we are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ, even when practice is hard, uncomfortable, and demanding.
In Genesis 12, God makes a promise to Abram but only after telling him to leave everything he’s ever known. Abram had just settled in Haran when God told him to go. When n God calls us, He often unsettles us. He pulls us out of comfort to see where our faith really stands. For Abram to experience God’s promise, he had to walk away from everything familiar. And the same is true for us. It’s better to walk with our Father than to chase after anything we’ve built on our own.
We often think a blessing is just God’s favor to us but a blessing is meant to flow through us. God blesses us so others can be impacted through our obedience. We must be careful, though: God can make promises that we never experience if we choose disobedience. The Israelites were promised the land, but an entire generation missed out because they kept looking back to Egypt.
God shows up when we go. If we don’t go, He won’t show. Where has God been telling you to go? What has He told you to do that you’re still hesitating on because you’re focused on what you lack instead of the One who called you? The battles won’t disappear, but with faith, you’ll see them overcome. Faith is acting like it is so, even when it is not so, in order that it might be so simply because God said so.
Forty-nine years ago, Dr. Tony and Mrs. Lois Evans responded to God’s call to “Go.” And year after year, God showed up. Their obedience laid the foundation for a Kingdom legacy. From Abram’s obedience came Jesus and our salvation. Our greatness is directly tied to our obedience. Our lives aren’t about us. They’re about the Kingdom.
Getting Started
- Whose obedience has most impacted your faith journey, and why?
- Has there ever been a time when God asked you to leave your comfort zone?
Let’s Get Personal
- Have you ever missed out on something that God promised because you hesitated or looked back?
- What legacy do you believe God is calling you to build, and what steps are you taking towards it?
- In what area of your life do you need to move in faith even though you might not feel ready?
Take the Next Step
- What’s one step you can take to “go” towards what God is calling you to do?
- Pray and ask God to show you where you’ve been settling for what’s comfortable and to give you the courage to move forward in faith.
- Want to dig deeper? Take a look at the following passages: Genesis 12:1-3; Romans 8:29-31; Genesis 11:31; Isaiah 55:8-9; Hebrews 11:1-31.

“. . . And I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.”
