Summary: Obtain or receive merchandise, total bill, accept payment, and make change for customers in book store by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide a friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging all customers, maintaining outstanding standards, and maintain solid product knowledge along with all other components of customer service.
  • Answer customer's questions concerning location, price, and use of merchandise.
  • Accurately and efficiently complete all sales transactions; total price and tax on merchandise purchased by customer to determine bill; accept payment and make change.
  • Remove and record amount of cash in register at end of shift.
  • Calculate sale discount to determine price.
  • Assist in processing and replenishing merchandise; participate in receiving and monitoring floor stock.
  • Stock shelves, counters, and tables with merchandise and maintain their cleanliness.
  • Set up advertising displays or arranges merchandise on counters or tables to promote sales.
  • Stamp, mark, or tag price on merchandise.
  • Obtain merchandise requested by customer or receive merchandise selected by customer.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with computerized inventory system and Point of Sale is required. Must be able to work most Saturdays and Sundays and available during the week.
