Department: Kingdom Collegiate Academy (KCA)
The School Counselor provides comprehensive academic counseling and student support for middle and high school students. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining the master schedule, coordinating student academic placement and course selections, maintaining accurate academic records, supporting students with academic and extracurricular opportunities, and collaborating with families, schools, colleges, and outside organizations to promote student success.
The counselor serves as an advocate for students and works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, families, and external partners to ensure that students receive appropriate academic guidance and are prepared for their collegiate and post-secondary goals.
Core Responsibilities
Ministerial Responsibilities & Spiritual Care
All employees of Kingdom Collegiate Academy, an educational ministry of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, serve in ministerial roles that contribute to the spiritual mission and ministry of the church. As such, employees are expected to model Christian values, support the spiritual development of others, and actively contribute to a Christ-centered work environment. This includes engaging in prayer and spiritual encouragement with co-workers and church members, participating in staff meetings and Bible studies, and demonstrating a personal commitment to ongoing spiritual growth.
Master Scheduling & Academic Advising
- Develop and maintain the master schedule for the middle and high school.
- Coordinate academic scheduling and course placement for middle and high school students.
- Review student course selections and ensure students are appropriately placed based on academic needs, graduation requirements, and post-secondary goals.
- Monitor course enrollment and make scheduling adjustments as needed.
- Collaborate with administrators and faculty to address scheduling conflicts and academic placement concerns.
- Advise students and families regarding course selection, graduation requirements, academic progress, and post-secondary opportunities.
Student Academic Records & Data Management
- Enter and maintain accurate academic information for incoming students in the school’s student information management system.
- Review transcripts and academic records to determine appropriate course placement and credit transfer.
- Manage and maintain accurate student academic data, including transcripts, credits, grades, schedules, and graduation requirements.
- Monitor student progress toward graduation and identify students who may need additional academic support.
- Communicate with previous schools and educational institutions to obtain accurate and complete academic records.
- Ensure student academic records are maintained in accordance with school policies and applicable privacy requirements.
- Prepare academic reports and other documentation as requested by school leadership.
Student Support & College/Career Readiness
- Provide individual and group academic counseling to students.
- Assist students in developing academic plans aligned with their college, career, and post-secondary goals.
- Support students with college and career exploration, applications, scholarships, testing, and other post-secondary planning activities.
- Help students identify academic and extracurricular opportunities that align with their interests and goals.
- Partner with families to address academic concerns and develop strategies for student success.
External Partnerships & Student Opportunities
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with other schools and educational institutions to obtain and verify student academic information.
- Work with colleges, universities, community organizations, athletic organizations, enrichment programs, and other outside entities to support student extracurricular activities.
- Coordinate with outside organizations to provide students with academic opportunities, enrichment experiences, internships, competitions, leadership opportunities, and other educational ventures.
- Serve as a school liaison for external partners supporting student academic and extracurricular development.
- Communicate school requirements, policies, and student needs to appropriate external organizations.
Collaboration & School Support
- Collaborate with principals, teachers, administrators, and other student support personnel to address student academic needs.
- Participate in student support meetings and other school-wide planning activities.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions.
- Support the school’s mission, vision, Christian values, and commitment to student excellence.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the appropriate school administrator.
Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Education, or a related field preferred/required based on school requirements.
- Appropriate Texas school counseling certification or licensure preferred.
- Experience working with middle and/or high school students.
- Strong knowledge of academic advising, graduation requirements, transcripts, and course scheduling.
- Experience developing or managing a school master schedule preferred.
- Strong organizational and data-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, families, faculty, administrators, and external partners.
- Proficiency with student information systems and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
