Our Christology – what we believe about who Christ is and what He accomplished – is an essential theological belief. According to Scripture, Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who came in the flesh to reveal God to mankind, fulfill the law, and redeem a lost world. Philippians 2 beautifully conveys how Christ humbled Himself and gave up the glory of heaven to come to earth. He is eternally God, while also the one man who lived a sinless life. The gospel is founded upon His death on the cross for sinners and on His resurrection on the third day.

Jesus Christ models perfect humility. Although He possessed all the glory, power, and authority of God, He willingly traded His heavenly strength for human frailty. He both spoke the world into being and spoke to the wind and waves, demonstrating that He is fully God and fully man. Throughout His life, Jesus fulfilled every aspect of the law of God, fixing what the first man had broken. Ultimately, Jesus modeled complete obedience to the Father’s will by becoming the sacrifice for sin. By enduring the shame, suffering, and curse of the cross, Jesus accomplished redemption once for all. One day, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Understanding the person and work of Jesus Christ defines our faith and our practice. We have a responsibility to know what we believe and to live a life that reflects Christ’s example. Therefore, we are called to pursue humility, offer forgiveness, love sacrificially, and obey joyfully. Rather than putting ourselves first, we are meant to serve others. It does not matter how we look and how we are perceived; what matters is our output and how we allow the Spirit to work through us. Consider the testimony of your life.
