Children’s Ministries at OCBF offers a safe and nurturing
environment in which boys and girls 6 months-6th grade
discover God’s amazing truth in Jesus Christ and are
encouraged to follow Him as His disciples. Children are
engaged in creative bible studies and activities that are
age appropriate and designed to provide weekly fellowship
opportunities. Our goal is to partner with parents to disciple
their children to impact their world for Jesus Christ.

Our Programs
6th Grade Ministry Bridge

Ministry Bridge is a discipleship program that prepares 6th graders in their transition
to the “Next Level” Youth Ministry. The program includes small groups for girls
and boys, interactive fellowship, and outreach opportunities.

Arts Institute
The Arts Institute is a ministry of the church whereby children, youth and adults are taught how to play a musical instrument or sing. The fundamentals of sight-reading music, the discipline of regular practice, and the art of music performance are taught by instructors skilled in these areas. The purpose is to share the God-given gift of music while being a spiritual mentor to the students.

AWANA (Approved Workers Are Not Ashamed)

AWANA is a program that teaches children to know, love and serve Christ. Through
the memorization of scriptures and the teaching of Christian principles, each
clubber grows in the knowledge of God and becomes a worker not ashamed to
make a stand for Christ. AWANA operates on a school-year schedule (following
the calendar of DISD) and meets every Wednesday night. Parents of clubbers
are required to serve two times per year.

Baptism
Baptism classes for children are available each quarter and helps children know, show, and grow in their new faith. During classes, teachers answer questions like what is baptism and why do I need baptism as well as teach other basic doctrines of the Christian faith.

Children’s Drama
The Drama Ministry offers the unique opportunity to creatively evangelize and disciple children through their participation in special productions.

Children of Light Choir
The Children of Light Choir gives children the opportunity to worship and serve God through music.

Children’s Worship
The central aim of the Children’s Worship Ministry is to lead children in the praise, adoration, and exaltation of God through worship events. Available each Sunday (with the exception of 5th Sundays) during both services, these events equip children with tools that enable them to give God their full service.

Food Pantry
The OCBF Food Pantry has been adopted by the Children’s Ministry as its outreach project. Parents and children can bring canned goods on Sundays and Wednesdays to help individuals in need. It is an excellent opportunity to show children of all ages the importance of helping others who are less fortunate.

Helping Hands Child Care
Helping Hands Child Care is a special provision for OCBF members involved in any church ministry event. Paid Ministry staff engage youngsters in projects with a purpose and crafts with a cause while parents participate in OCBF events. Child Care is available upon the request of Ministry Heads each Wednesday and Sunday for children 6 months – K5 during Worship times.

Nursery - First Touch Ministry
The First Touch Ministry is where children are touched early by the love of God. Like Helping Hands Child Care, this ministry supports the other ministries of the church. First Touch receives children from 6 to 23 months and is available every Sunday and Wednesday during all services.  Parents who utilize this ministry are required to serve twice a year.

Puppeteers Puppet Ministry
The Puppet Ministry provides a creative avenue to win boys and girls for Christ. With warm faces and funny voices, puppets have a fascinating way of seizing children’s attention and saturating their minds with godly precepts that they are sure to never forget.

Special Events
Children’s Special Events plan a variety of activities including Family Vacation Bible School, Hallowed Be Thy Name (alternative to Halloween), FunFest, Kids Across America, Spring Fest, Back-2-School, and Easter Eggstravaganza.

Special Needs
The Children’s Special Needs program fosters the spiritual development of children and adults who are mentally, emotionally and/or physically challenged. Loving teachers help students understand basic spiritual truths by applying biblical content to the personal challenges they experience.  This program is available every Sunday and Wednesday during all services.

Summer Bridge
The Summer Bridge program operates during the period in which AWANA is dormant. The program’s goal is simply old-fashioned fun with a biblical emphasis. Summer Bridge meets from 7 – 8:30 pm each Wednesday night beginning the week after Family Vacation Bible School and ending at the start of AWANA in the Fall.  Children come together for a 15-20 minute devotional and praise and worship followed by a variety of fun activities.
